LAYCO is a spin-off of the "Surgery for All" research group at TU Delft and was founded by Dieuwertje Drexhage and Thom Weustink. LAYCO aims to develop reusable medical devices to improve global access to healthcare while reducing the environmental impact of the healthcare sector. The patented vela®, LAYCO's first product, was developed in-house by inventor Christiaan Bakker.

The Challenge

As a startup in the medical industry, LAYCO’s original website reflected
where they were, but not where they wanted to be. With the launch of their first product vela® and the groundwork for future products having begun, LAYCO wanted a professional, easy-to-navigate website that reflected their growing presence in the industry. Having a sleek, simple, intuitive design that represented who they were was at the top of their priority list. 

They wanted to showcase how they positively contribute to improving care for those in need, increase website visitors, and create a space for engagement with their audience.

We needed a website update and the Sciential team guided us through the process with on-time delivery of deadlines. It was great fun and we are proud of the result.

Our Approach

Step 1

After understanding LAYCO’s website goals, we began to brainstorm the overall branding of the website. Working closely with our User Experience (UX) designer, we found a marriage between what the target audience needed and what LAYCO aimed for in terms of look, feel, and tone.

Step 2

Once we aligned LAYCO’s goals and the customer's goals, our web developer started with wireframes and (draft) concept pages.

Step 3

Continual, open feedback rounds ensured LAYCO’s website was exactly what they envisioned, down to the curvature of the text boxes.

Step 4

On the backend, Sciential’s expertise in digital platforms meant that on-page and technical Search Engine Optimization (SEO) was integrated to boost LAYCO’s online presence.
